Pirenopolis para gringos

"Lazer" street

A lovely city, located about 130km from Brasilia, a place full of nice little stores and restaurants, with an old arquitecture from 18th century, built by the portuguese who arrived looking for gold and gems.

Pizzaria do Alemão

Pirenópolis looks a lot like Paraty, with no beaches. There are many shops selling hand made household products, local art products, organic food and tapestry. Lots of shops selling jewelry, mostly silver with brazilian gems. The city also has nice spring waterfalls. In most of them, you need to do some tracking to get there.

Check the official site:

One of the best places to stay would be Pousada dos Pireneus, a big “farm hotel” with horses, swimming pools, huge restaurant – kind of rustic chic style.

If you go, I recommend to spend the night, because it is great to walk around in the sunset, visit a square in the center of the city, where some art craft people have their stands selling nice things – from hand bags to typical food.  There is this hippie atmosphere, live  music in some coffee places, with a cosmopolitan touch. Lots of foreigners moved to Piri (the nickname). Some opened restaurants, others snack places, coffee places.  You may want to look for a tiny street right in the center of Piri, where there is “Armazen Pirenopolis” owned by a French couple and an italian guy.  (It is located in Rua Direita).

I have a post about it:

One of the best restaurants is called Montserrat, Spanish owner. I also made a post about it in:

It is better to make reservations for a hotel. The city is always full when there is a holiday. Last time we stayed at the “Pousada do Frade”, simple and charming.

If you want to stay only in the hotel and forget the world, go to  Villa do Comendador:
